Once on a Greek Island Rhodos, very early in the morning when everybody was still sleeping, I saw the orange sunrise in the east above the distant mountains of Turkey across the sea. I could not stop watching this magnificent moment. Months later, after I finished this painting, the memories of that beautiful moment came back, so I called this painting ‘Turkish Spring’.
